Around 8am I went for a long walk down to Rodeo Drive in search of that GTO I saw yesterday. Found it and took some pics of the car as well as some houses and palm trees. Perfect weather in LA at that hour mid 60’s and dry no wind.
I feel like I am in one of these horror movies where you just know something is gonna happen but shake off the feeling and get on the road after 10am. Left my chaps and some clothes at Bonnie’s so will have her priority mail them to Hotglues so I have warm legs on the last part of the trip in the NE.
No real traffic on the -I10 and was making good time leaving the city of angels. My plan was to exit around mile 137 and head north to Joshua Tree but as I approached the marker the wind picked up. I mean REALLY picked up. The clue was Hundreds of giant windmills. That is NEVER good news. Like when you watch Star Trek and a man in a red uniform is introduced you just know he will be dog meat before the 1st commercial.
I would guess 40-50 mph was the wind gusts and since they were coming from my right I positioned my bike just to the left of a camper for some time. When I needed gas I beeped a thank you got a thumbs up and got gas. Wish I could have continued with him as then the dust started flying swirls of sand moving across the road and blowing so I had the face shield down AND the sun visor down even tho it was pretty dark. The wind continued for almost 35 miles then visibility got better, The wind got lighter at the Arizona border but still there were occasional gusts from the left. No gusts from behind ! I was hoping for a tailwind that everyone always talks about but it never happened. Well at least I am done with the California desert now, still AZ, NM and Texas
One thing I learned that I will pass on is that rest areas have no shade. So I find an overpass and stop all the way on the right in the shade to stretch and drink water. The steep sides of the overpass are great for stretching the legs and I can lean on it and close my eyes for a few moments after putting the eye drops in, My eyes are holding up and no issues today even when sand gets in the right eye somehow it comes out when I use the drops with no scratching that I can tell
Around 4:30 I got to F6 gals street but in the wrong neighborhood. I did not have the code for the gate and the drawbridge over the moat so called Mike and he directed me to the wrong house SO I called him again and went to the wrong street eventually finding their abode on the 3rd set of streets with the same name.
They are great hosts and we just got back from dinner where we had great dinners, Steak for me and Mike and chicken for Connie who took a secretary audition shot so she can say she has participated in the sport. Now we are watching Mike’s favorite show Duck Dynasty and laughing it up.
Don, if you play golf in 50 mph winds you are one sick puppy lol. And if you ride in that crap. you Must be a great rider. Joe glad you got out and Paxton be safe, Black ones are fast
Tomorrow to BIGBF. !
