This morning I managed to reach Czuch on the phone and we agreed to all meet at the side of I-10 about 30 miles down from me and then ride to the State Park to tour the caverns. My cousin has been to all the caverns and caves and said this beat Carlsbad by a country mile and she was right it was spectacular
Here is a link
Jon had been there but it was Tammy’s first tour just like me and it was well worth the detour. We took some pics after and then we all rode east to a rest area with spectacular rock formations. Hopefully he posts them on the vrcc board or sends them to me
At a gas stop just west of Las Cruces I struck up conversation with 3 folks on 3 Harleys, 2 guys and a gal, all helmetless and no eye protection I hope they made out ok down the road as they were headed to Ft Lauderdale. They were all new Harleys I said I just was on my way back from a ride from NY to LA and returning thru Houston to NY having left a week ago When asked about the mileage on my bike I said I have over 90000 miles on my bike. They were quiet for a spell and showed proper respect for the ultimate cruiser of the decade. I
I hit a LOT of wind riding east and some dust storms At points I saw huge clouds of dust from distance just flying from south to north. You don’t see stuff like that in the northeast, thankfully.
There were signs for cheap motels and restaurants in LAS CRUCES and as I said I stopped for gas just before town and decided I could make El Paso

About 5 miles east of town and all the good restaurants and motels along came dark dust cloud and extremely high wind. I put on my flashers even though still going 70 and trucks were doing 75-80 and put down the face shield and held on as the bike was rocked repeatedly by 55+ mph gusts, I saw a sign through the dust storm for a Best Western at mile 0. TEXAS ! and exited and got a room.. More than I wanted to spend but the nice gal gave me a steep discount over the published rate and I got a great big room with fridge (yes MP a big one) and already called for wake up at 6 so I can get along down the road. Wind is supposed to die down tomorrow but I have been hearing that for a week. In the morning they are predicting winds in the 20’s going back up to the 50’s in the afternoon, hope I’m far away by then.
It was really nice to see my cousins Elizabeth and see that she is doing well and meet her dogs. She is a great gal and I enjoyed the visit and the power smoothie she made this morning with spinach strawberry and raspberry blueberry cilantro coconut water and I can’t remember the rest of it. It kept me going till 3pm
It was also a pleasure to meet Jonathan and Tammy and spend a good amount of time with them. Great people as were all the other nice folks I spent time with this past 9 days. I will see my cousin in 2 weeks at my house as I now am the leader for the Passover Seder since my dad has passed on. I hope to see Jonathan and Tammy if they ever get to NY and I know Bonnie would get along great with Tammy
Probably I will just ride to Junction Texas tomorrow which is round 460 miles unless the freaking wind really does die. I am getting 34 miles per gallon at speedometer reading of 82. Thanks Big BF ! of course I am also getting kicked from behind by a big wind.
Ride safe and see y’all down the road. If any members are between here and Houston call my cell 914 522 0083
Also I want to say hi to folks from Housing Court who are reading my blog. See you April 9th
