This morning Dan and I left Tuscaloosa around 6:30am. It had been thunderstormng all night and stopped just before morning twilight so the ground was soaked and slippery. Fortunately I had brought two pairs of boots and two jackets as we went thru a half day of toad strangler storms on the way from Hotglue’s and I had dry clothes for todays marathon ride.
We had just light rain for the first hour and then things dried up. Then as we were riding in Alabama thru a construction zone a trifecta of trouble There was a spot where the pavement was cut and a two inch or so bump to the raised pavement at 60mph I lost Fred…… my GPS holder that everyone on the board has seen. When I went to use my air horns a bit later to warn a cage I had no horn and when I stopped for gas I realized the impact must have not only sheared off the horn but also broke the spring that holds the kickstand up.
Well it takes more than that to stop a Boy from the Bronx, I just used the single bungee cord that holds my bag on the back seat to keep the stand up and off we went Today was 725 miles door to door for me. Dan was continuing home and expected to arrive at midnight so he can work tomorrow. He is a machine, I kept getting tired and he is just rolling along no worse for wear.
Of course this was my 15th day of riding but he went to Houston from NJ in 2 days and returned in 2 days. WOW ! Sorry no pics today.
I went to an amazing buffet here next to the comfort inn. Had lots of fried chicken, BBQ brisket, veggies including my favorite beets corn and carrots, mashed potatoes. Went back a second time. Then chocolate cake and strawberries with whipped cream and went back a second time also. 11 dollars with tax.
Its supposed to rain heavy soon and end by morning
Tomorrow should be less than six hours of riding for home. Just in time for Bonnie’s birthday and she already has given me a honey to do list. Hang in there Bonnie will be home soon.
